Plug in a main component (like a PC or a TV) in the master socket, then plug in all your peripherals into the slave socket (like a printer, Set top box, speakers, DVD player, and so on). When you turn on your main component (the master), all your slave devices turn on. Likewise when you turn off the main component, everything plugged into the slave sockets also turn off.
